About Greenville Foothills

The United States Pony Clubs, Inc., develops character, leadership, confidence and a sense of community in youth through a program that teaches the care of horses and ponies, riding and mounted sports.

GFPC is part of the United States Pony Clubs, which started as an organization to educate youth in riding, horsemanship and leadership, with riding based primarily around the sport of Eventing.  The national organization has evolved over time, adding the disciplines of dressage, hunt seat equitation/showjumping, and western riding, as well as to allow adults over the age of 25 to enroll as Horsemasters.

GFPC is a large club with about 60 members, about one-third of whom are Horsemasters.  Our members live in a wide geographical area, including Greenville, Anderson, and Pickens counties; Columbia, SC; and Asheville/Hendersonville, NC.  GFPC does not currently offer a Western program; our members take part in all other disciplines, and our regular/junior members and Horsemasters participate together in all club meetings and events.

We hold the majority of our meetings at Riverbend Equestrian Park, 175 River Bend Road, Greenville, SC  29617.  Our meetings are held one Saturday per month and are day-long events.  Each member participates in one riding lesson and two to three unmounted sessions covering horse management topics.

GFPC does not charge a fee to attend regular monthly meetings.  Instructors are paid for through our fundraising activities, and we ask that each family dedicate some time to volunteer at our fundraisers.  We hold three schooling shows a year, a yard sale during our August open house meeting, as well as occasional additional fundraisers.  While we do not expect everyone to participate in all of the fundraisers, we do need sufficient volunteers to allow us to continue this practice.  We are entirely a volunteer organization and ask that everyone find some way to help support our activities.
